The Proof: Improved Literacy Levels

HILL generates significant improvement in outcomes in a number of ways and through a range of relationships throughout the country. Our primary partners, the COEs, use our model to drive learning and literacy results in their local markets. HILL also provides direct services to schools in New England. A few examples follow.

Reading Improvement Project - Rhode Island
HILL partnered with the Highlander-Dunn Institute, a professional development provider in RI, and trained the facilitators to use the HILL Model in four project schools. After year one, school staff was able to significantly affect reading outcomes of 500 students with support from HILL/COE facilitators. Learn more.

Early Reading First Project - Boston, MA
HILL partnered with the Boston Public Schools to deliver professional development for Boston’s six Early Education Centers as part of a federally funded Early Reading First grant. By providing support in strategic planning, leadership development, assessment, coaching and teacher training, significant results were achieved in language and literacy as documented by UMASS Donahue Institute, the evaluators for the project. Pre-K Expansion Project - Boston, MA
HILL expanded its Early Reading First work to 87 schools and168 pre-k classrooms throughout the Boston Public School (BPS) system.  Partnering with BPS early childhood staff and partners, HILL developed plans, provided professional development training to early childhood coaches, administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals, served on committees, and created extensive materials to support developmentally appropriate environments and curriculum implementation.  The result: increased language and literacy development in Boston Public School’s and a better-trained workforce.
