“Leadership Matters, Investment Works: A Statewide Approach to Reading Success By Third Grade and Beyond”

Thursday, January 24, 2019
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Legislative Office Building, Room 1D
300 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106
The legislature’s Commissions on Women, Children & Seniors and Equity and Opportunity, together with the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus and the State Department of Education will share successful outcomes and critical “next steps” of the state’s equity focused reading plan. Joining us will be state officials and reading experts from the State of Mississippi to share best practices in the science of teaching reading and expanding opportunity for all children.
School leaders, teachers, parents, scholars, and reading experts will discuss how the pieces fit together. The data, along with details of teacher support, assessment methods, and community partnerships will show how a comprehensive plan bolsters performance, opportunity, and outcomes for students of color, children with dyslexia, and other children needing targeted, science-based reading interventions.
